Q&A splitter: one chapter per question
talkcuts' free Q&A splitter turns a webinar, live Q&A or interview transcript into one chapter per question. Paste the transcript or open a caption file; it finds each question, skips check-ins like "Can everyone hear me?", and gives YouTube chapters and clip times, titled with the question as it was asked.
Updated 4 November 2026. Free, no AI, nothing is uploaded.
Why split a Q&A by question?
People search for their own question, not for "webinar part 2". One chapter per question lets a viewer jump straight to it, and each question with its answer is often a clip that works on its own.
How do I use the list?
- YouTube chapters: copy the list and paste it into the video's description in YouTube Studio. YouTube needs the first chapter at 00:00, at least 3 chapters and each at least 10 seconds; the tool adds "Intro" at 00:00 when the first question comes later.
- Clips: download the clip times. Each row has the question, where it starts and where the next question starts, so you or your editor can cut one clip per answer.
- Show notes or a follow-up email: the questions alone make a good "what we covered" list.
Source for the chapter rules: YouTube Help, "Video Chapters", checked 3 November 2026.
What transcripts can I paste?
A caption file (.srt or .vtt), lines that start with a time like 00:01:23 text or [01:23] Sam: text, speaker lines like Sam (00:01:23) with the words underneath, or plain text with no times.
Want the best answers as clips?
talkcuts finds the best 2 or 3 moments in your recording and cuts each into a vertical clip with captions, starting and ending on a full sentence.

Questions
How does it find the questions?
It looks for sentences that end with a question mark, lines that start with "Q:", and questions read out like "The next question is from Sam". It skips small check-ins like "Does that make sense?" and "Can everyone hear me?", and treats a question that comes soon after another as a follow-up. In captions with no punctuation, it looks for lines that start like a question (how, why, what, can you...). It uses fixed rules, not AI, so read the list and remove anything that is not a real question.
Where do I get a transcript with times?
From the tool you record or edit with: most recording and video-call apps can save captions or a transcript as an .srt, .vtt or .txt file. YouTube Studio can also download a caption file for a video you uploaded, from the Subtitles page.
Can I use it without times?
Yes. Paste plain text and you get a numbered list of the questions, without times. To get chapters or clip times you need a transcript with times.
Is my transcript uploaded?
No. It is read in your own browser and never sent to us or saved anywhere.
Is it free?
Yes. No account and no email.
